Now that 2023 is coming to an end, we have so many things to look back on. For example, music! Music has been a powerful cultural force, shaping the past, present and future by reflecting movements and trends. With that, here is the review of 10 albums to finish off 2023!
But Here We Are, Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighters are a rock band famous for their songs Everlong, The Pretender, My Hero, and others. They have been an active band since 1995. But Here We Are by the Foo Fighters was their eleventh album released on June 2, 2023. The most popular song on the album is The Glass. This was the first album since the passing of their drummer, Taylor Hawkins.
Guts, Olivia Rodrigo
Guts is Olivia Rodrigo’s second album that debuted September 8, 2023. Olivia Rodrigo fans or ‘Livies’ have been waiting for this album since the release of Sour in May of 2021. Many speculated that ‘Sweet’ would be the name since Sour was the name of her first. Guts features songs like bad idea right?, vampire, logical, get him back!, and ballad of a homeschooled girl.
For all the Dogs, Drake
For all the Dogs was released on October 6, 2023 and features artists like 21 Savage, J. Cole, Yeat, SZA, Lil Yachty, and even his own son Adonis. This was Drake’s eighth album since he started his career in 2010 with his debut album Thank me later. For All the Dogs wasn’t Drake’s biggest album but it did dominate charts with five of his songs climbing up.
Scarlet, Doja Cat
This past year, Doja Cat (and her music) has been under fire for her crazy, rude, and unhinged social media presence. Scarlet (September 22, 2023) contains songs like Attention and Paint the Town Red which many on Tiktok and Twitter consider ‘devil music’. Doja Cat however, doesn’t let any of this get to her so she continues to post her unique content and goes on tour.
Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), Taylor Swift
There is a very big difference between Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and Speak Now. Anything with “(Taylor’s Version)” at the end shows that Taylor Swift has the rights to it. When Taylor signed to Republic Records one of the terms was she is allowed to re record her music whenever she wants. Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) was released July 7, 2023.
Endless Summer Vacations, Miley Cyrus
Flowers, a song off Endless Summer Vacations took tik tok and instagram by storm when it was released! Flowers was also the fastest song to hit one billion streams on spotify! Flowers was on the album Endless Summer Vacations debuting on March 10, 2023. Endless Summer Vacations was Miley’s eight studio album.
Pink Tape, Lil Uzi Vert
Debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 Chart, Pink Tape was a massive hit! Lil Uzi Vert always goes number one but songs like I Just Want To Rock, Suicide Doors, and Endless Fashion gave him more attention than when he put an eleven carat pink diamond in his forehead in 2021. This is his third album after Eternal Atake from 2020. Many people were anticipating the release of this album and Uzi definitely delivered!
CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale, Tyler, The Creator
CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale by Tyler, The Creator is my personal favorite. CMIYGL features songs like Dogtooth, Willshire, Heaven to Me, and twenty one others. CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale was hosted by DJ Drama. This is Tyler’s newest album since IGOR in 2019. CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale was released on March 27, 2023 not to get confused with CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST that was released on June 25, 2021.
