Violence on Valentine’s Day
April 3, 2018
The sound of gunshots mingled with the trill of the dismissal bell at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Hundreds of students ran out of the school screaming as 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, who was expelled, returned to campus to blanket the school with gunfire. Nikolas entered the campus around 3:00 PM with an AR-15 and many magazines. He pulled the fire alarm and threw smoke bombs down the hallway as panicked student and staff took refuge inside classrooms. He made his way back out of the school and shot a few more people on the grounds before fleeing the campus. Police apprehended Nikolas at the entrance to Pelican Pointe at Wyndham Lakes, a community in Coral Springs. There are 17 victims with 15 more in the hospital with varying degrees of injury. This is a developing story, so keep up with your local news station, CNN, NBC or other news organizations. Please keep the victims, their friends, and family and the members of the Parkland, Florida community in your thoughts and prayers.
