We Got Spirit!
After the first month of school students and teachers are feeling sluggish and still adjusting to the new year. A boost of enthusiasm comes with the most exciting time of year, spirit week! This year’s spirit week consisted of ‘Merica Monday, Tiki Tuesday, Character Day Wednesday, PJ Day Thursday, and Class Pride on Friday.
On ‘Merica Monday there was an explosion of red, white, and blue. Students and teachers alike were all about showing their patriotism for America and it was exemplified through their attire.
Usher in Tiki Tuesday, the Whippany Park population busted out Hawaiian shirts, hula skirts, floral patterns, leis, and anything tiki inspired.
Character Day on Wednesday saw a wide variety of outfits. Students were transformed into their favorite characters: Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc., the cast of Friends, and Dwight from The Office. A few members of the faculty actually dressed up at the six pillars of character.
Thursday was the PJ Day. PJ Day was the most laid back of the days because students and faculty were wearing their comfortable nighttime attire. The hallways were flooded with fuzzy pants, slippers, baggy sweatshirts, and anything that looked comfortable.
Of course, Friday was the highly anticipated Class Pride Friday. As per usual, the freshmen wore blue, the sophomores red, juniors white, and the seniors with the traditional “senior blackout”. Each grade competed in a hallway decorating contest to determine who had the most pride. That afternoon each class competed in a series of events at the annual pep rally, culminating with a tug-of-war. The seniors ultimately came out on top, having the highest points overall.
Spirit week gives students a chance to dress up and show their school spirit. Spirit week is always able to bring the school together as a whole and really helps to show that we are one family. All the pictures and great memories of spirit week allow us to start the school year in a positive way.
