Looking back, my childhood was characterized by the phenomenon that was the Twilight Saga. Twilight took over the world with its beloved characters and complex storyline. When the series ended in 2012, the Twilight world was devastated. Over time, the worldwide frenzy subdued, but never fully left fans’ hearts. Recently, the idea of a reboot has been circulating, leaving fans of the series torn about this addition to the series. Despite fans’ indecisiveness, the Twilight Saga will arguably never be the same once a reboot is made.
Twilight exemplifies the true meaning of “the past should stay in the past.” It was one of the most iconic vampire-werewolf pieces to ever exist, surpassing even Anne Rice who spent her entire career devoted to this topic and style. When I say Twilight was iconic, I mean it was iconic exactly the way it was. The storyline, the characters, and even the way the characters speak in the movies are outdated and are now considered to be “overdone.” Therefore, it’s almost impossible to remake what made it so special in the first place.
We all know how much criticism movie reboots face. Just look at Mean Girls; it’s essentially mocked as an internet meme! Not only did people criticize the characters for “just not being the same,” but also because they used the same script as the original. Fans’ excitement for the film turned into a mockery of their failed attempt at remaking the original Mean Girls released in 2004.
The Twilight reboot will be no different. The magic that filled many people’s lives, and in my case childhood, won’t be found in anything besides the original movie because it simply won’t be the same. The magic that came from the original Twilight Saga cannot be replicated. Additionally, we won’t know if this new reboot will adhere to the original storyline. This reboot could potentially ruin the entire series!
It has been speculated that the reboot will feature Hollywood’s rising stars Jacob Elordi and Jenna Ortega. Despite these actors being universally loved, it doesn’t change the fact that they aren’t Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. While this reboot intends to bring about feelings of nostalgia for its loyal fans, it may end up simply being a remake that no one asked for.
