This year’s Women’s March took place all around the globe, on January 19th for the third running year. The main march occurred in Washington D.C, but other areas that participated includes New York City, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, and Los Angeles. The purpose of the Women’s March is to educate, create a change, and address topics such as violence against women, LGBTQIA + rights, immigrant rights, civil rights/liberties, and environmental justice. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told CNN, “All of these women are coming together in solidarity with each other, to support each other, and to make sure that every single voice is amplified, protected and advanced in the United States of America”. This year, the march was a center of controversy and anti-semitism accusations. These accusations revolve around certain leaders of the National Women’s March Inc, who’ve allegedly

made anti-semitic remarks and comments. In response to the allegations, board member Carmen Perez-Jordan has stated, “ Over the last year, my sisters in Women’s March and I have faced accusations that have hurt my soul. Charges of anti-Semitism and neglecting our LGBTQIA family. And I want to be unequivocal in affirming that Women’s March and I and my sisters condemn anti-Semitism and homophobia and transphobia in all forms.” The controversy has lead to many protests and even a few cancellations of Women’s March, like in New Orleans. It even made people reluctant to come and smaller crowds for this year. Yet, those who did march said they did it in support of the movements larger goals and aims.
