Standards of beauty has changed throughout the years. Naturally, makeup has changed too. This new era of makeup is the no- makeup makeup. Don’t be fooled by the name though, there is now more makeup products being sold than ever before.

Starting from the base, the newest product is liquid luminators. While bases like moisturizer and primer was used in the past to prevent the skin from being dry, liquid illuminators are being used to give the skin a glow-from-within appearance. Once again, the name is deceiving as a thick layer of foundation covers the skin, hiding any imperfections. Since shadows are covered with a one shade foundation, contour is used to bring them back. Contour is usually one to two shades lighter than your foundation and can come in powder or liquid. It is blended out so no one can tell it was on in the first place, giving off a fake impression of natural beauty. A light layer of blush is added to the cheeks unlike the heavy layers of it in the ‘90’s. To sculpt and define the face further, highlighter is applied to the top of cheekbones, forehead, and bridge of the nose to enhance the structure of the face. This luminescent highlighter gives off an impression of glowing natural skin.

Compared to the past ‘90’s thin eyebrow trend, the 21st century is full of natural bushy eyebrows. To achieve this, users draw and fill in on top of their eyebrows with a pencil. Eyeshadow is also a lot more natural and calm than the crazy colors of the 90’s. Light browns and what are called “nude shades” are commonly used to add slight color while still remaining natural and effortless. When color is added, it usually a solid color under the lash line to make the eyes pop. An example of this is Kim Kardashian’s blue eyeshadow under the lash line.

In contrast from the 90’s colorful lipsticks, makeup lovers now use nude shades that match their natural lip shade and lipsticks a few shades lighter or darker. Another difference is the formula itself in the past they were more creamy, and now they are a liquid that dries matte.
